I was looking through files of notes for something to write about. I saw these today.
Fifty percent of Americans are experiencing at least some debt stress.
One in five homeowners are underwater, in foreclosure or dangerously close to it.
Seven out of 10 live from paycheck to paycheck.
More college students leave school for credit card debt than grades. More go bankrupt than graduate.
That last one triggered an idea.
Countless students will be returning to college soon. They will have enough on their plates without adding debt stress. If you are a college student, or if you know one, encourage them to have a great start. Things can get off track quickly and easily. Tell them to avoid credit card debt like it is a terminal disease.
If you are not yet in college, or if you are a parent of a high school student, start now. Always be teaching, encourage saving and begin formulating a plan. Be relentless. The rest of your student's life is a long time. Help them avoid mistakes that can take a lifetime to correct.
Today's Winning Thought: Money is serious business. If they do not, cannot or will not manage money, money will control them.
