In another 30 to 45 days, students will be returning to the classroom. Teachers hope their students have been reading and keeping their minds occupied wsith something other than television. Books would be preferable, most teachers would suggest.
Hunger is another concern many kids and families are dealing with. Forget learning. Some kids just want to know if they will be able to find enough to eat. It is difficult to learn when you fighting hunger. Many schools offer a free meal or two during the summer months.
In his book Stand For The Best, former H & R Block CEO Thomas Bloch writes, "Socioeconomic factors, including parental involvement and home life, are critical influences on children's academic performances."
Bloch also wrote, "Breaking the cycle of poverty and dysfunction is the only way that students will be successful in life."
